Verification Packs and Badges

Postby Brad Connell » Tue Oct 02, 2012 10:20 am

Do you have an original Meyers Manx™?

Due to the increased number of buggy authentications sent to us daily and the exceeding amount of time it takes out of each day to make these deliberations, we have found the need to change the way we deal with it. As of August 15, 2012 we will be charging a non-refundable administration fee of $20 for each authentication, whether it is established to be an authentic Meyers Manx or found to be a copy. This money can be paid by credit card or sent in with the application found on our website (http://www.meyersmanx.com/REGISTRYAPPLICATION.pdf). We suggest calling in your credit card information to (760)749-6321 or faxing it (760)751-0610 - Sorry, but we do not have Pay Pal in place at this time.

Pictures can be sent by E-mail: mrsmanx@gmail.com or by regular mail to:

MEYERS MANX
PO Box 1491
Valley Center, CA 92082

Such pictures will need to be followed up or accompanied with the application and payment before assessments will take place. Such evaluations can take up to 4-6 weeks unless more or better pictures are needed and then perhaps even more time will be needed. Please be sure to take well lit pictures and label what we're looking at. If you can't tell what you're looking at, we certainly can't!

Serial number tags are only assigned to original Meyers Manx kit cars and surfboards at the time of purchase. Anyone selling a serial number tag on the internet is running a scam, as the tag is not valid without the original number it was stamped with and placed in our International Registry when it was sold.

We have now made the decision to give each buggy (or surfboard) a verification Registry number as well, so as to be able to track each buggy's history more easily. Many early buggies' never had a serial number tag and several "lost" their serial number tags. The new verification Registry tag will have its own number and will make your car's history more traceable and give it more validity for your financial benefit when trying to buy or sell one.

If your buggy is determined to be an authentic Meyers Kit Car, your $20 authenticating fee can be applied towards the $125 official Meyers Manx verification package. If your Meyers Manx has already been authenticated and is listed in the Registry, you may purchase the Authentication packet for $100.

This packet for a Meyers Manx will consist of the following:
- Certificate signed by Bruce and Winnie Meyers
- Set of plastic badges ( front and back)
- New Registry tag with individual number
- Glue or epoxy

• If you have a Meyers Tow'd and wish to submit it for verification, you must send in an overall picture of the Tow'd and a close-up of the rear package area and the area just above the pedals where the serial number tag should have been.

Authentication for the Tow'd is also $20 whether it is established to be an authentic Meyers Tow'd or found to be a copy. This money can be paid by credit card or sent in with the application found on our website (Application). We suggest calling in your credit card information to (760)749-6321 or faxing it (760)751-0610 - Sorry, but we do not have Pay Pal in place at this time. If it is found to be an authentic Meyers Tow'd the $20 can be applied to the Tow'd verification packet of $100. If your Meyers Tow'd is already listed in the Registry, you may purchase the Tow'd Authentication packet for $85.
The Tow'd verification packets will include:
- (2) side Tow'd decals
- (1) front decal
- Certificate signed by Bruce & Winnie Meyers
- New Registry tag

If your buggy has been authenticated and you do not wish to purchase the packet, but only wish to purchase the emblems:
•Plastic emblem set - $85 (+ tx & shipping)
•Plastic front emblem - $65 (+ tx & shipping)
•Plastic rear emblem - $25 (+ tx & shipping)
•New upgraded powder-coated aluminum billet emblems set - $200 (not available to exchange with plastic emblems within the packet) - + tx & shipping

I'm sure you will have questions, so please direct them to: mrsmanx@gmail.com.

In order to be entered in the Meyers Manx™ Registry, buggy owners need to be able to identify whether or not their buggy is an authentic Meyers Manx™. If you suspect that you may have one, or if you know you are a owner of any Meyers kit car, - original Manx, Tow'd, Manx S.R., Turista (sometimes called the Resorter) or any of the Manx Utility cars (Lifeguard, etc.), please send the following information in order to complete our registry file.

Additional Details of the Original Meyers Manx
•The dashboard of the 1st floorpan model is made of ABS plastic surrounded by a steel frame inside the fiberglass hood.
•The hood has a small bump on it's nose, measuring 2" wide by 2 1/2" tall. This bump wore a silver and black sticker on the first 150 kits or so into early 1967, at which time the large black and silver plastic emblem covered this bump. Meyers Manx never had any other bumps, airscoops, ridges, furrows, or anything else on their hoods.
•Two tubular steel struts may be in place to stiffen the lower edge of the body at either side of the license plate. This continued to the end of 1971.
•The 1st floorpan model, produced into the 70's, had stiffening tubes glassed under the fenders from the pedal bulkhead to the engine bulkhead. These were first made of cardboard tubes glassed in and later a few with 2" vacuum cleaner hose glassed in place, but finally a fiberglass shape was tooled, which formed a tube-like structure under both fenders. Very few cardboard or vacuum cleaner hoses were used. Most Meyers Manx's had a fiberglass tube.
•The 2nd floorpan model was called the Manx 2. There were a few hundred Manx 2 bodies produced from late 1968 to late 1970. Some of these were apparently produced while Bruce was still with the company. Those kits have serial numbers starting with "A". Some of these kits had the stiffening tubes under the fenders. The Manx 2's produced after Bruce left the country had 4-digit serial numbers and no longer had the reinforcing tubes under the fenders. All Manx 2's are identified by a larger bump on the hood, the omission of the battery box sump and the spare tire well in the rear seat area - they were flat across the seat area, and the hood and dash were molded as one piece. All Manx 2's were tagged with a serial number tag.

These verification packs and numbers will lead into the release of the Meyers Manx online register later this year. Once the register is released then it will hold all the information we have and allow people to view what a real Meyers Manx is and research if the buggy they are looking to purchase has been verified.

Any idea if there will ever be an official "sticker" car package for sale, for those of us with a "sticker" Manx?

Randy
